So people can be in your broadcast on SmileTime.<\/p>\n Or they can be watching it on Facebook and you\u2019ll see all those comments get integrated. You can\u2019t really screen share but you can share images. You can upload an image if say you wanted to do a presentation you just upload each image individually.<\/p>\n You know two or three slides you wouldn\u2019t want to do a twenty-page presentation. That would just be too much-moving things around. You could get five people or four people on one screen at the same time.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Sounds great.<\/p>\n Ileane lets talk about the mindset for a moment.<\/p>\n I\u2019d like for you to help us with this.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Matthew, you\u2019ve been on my YouTube channel, haven\u2019t you?<\/p>\n Because I have a video \u2013 The Right Mindset Before You Go LIVE.<\/p>\n One of the things you want to do guys especially in the beginning you\u2019re going to be nervous. It\u2019s OKAY, right? So get that in your head first of all. Okay?<\/p>\n For example \u2013<\/p>\n MAKE SURE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION IS FAST ENOUGH<\/strong><\/p>\n Your internet connection. You are going to want to check that, and there is a tool called BetaSpeedTest Dot Net. Make sure you have at least eight up and eight down. Don\u2019t worry about it. You\u2019ll see it\u2019s megabits per second. You want to have at least eight.<\/p>\n (I have Verizon. I have files so I\u2019ve got like eighty. But I\u2019ve talked to some folks that have had like one hundred up and one hundred down.)<\/p>\n But if you only have like five or if you\u2019re on your phone because they have that app for your phone.<\/p>\n You may not want to do it if you only have three or five then you may not want to go Live in that area where ever it is that you\u2019re out and about.<\/p>\n So that\u2019s one thing.<\/p>\n LET EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHEN YOU\u2019RE DOING A LIVE BROADCAST<\/strong><\/p>\n Tell everyone. Tell your family. Like I tell my folks \u201dI have an interview today.\u201d So hopefully my daughter won\u2019t come traipsing in here.<\/p>\n So these are things that you need to do to help you get past the nerves. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n You can practice by yourself. When you go on Facebook you can use Facebook and just send it to yourself. There is a setting there. There is an option you want to go Live just to your friends or to the public or to a group or to your self.<\/p>\n So practice.<\/p>\n Now you\u2019re feeling a little bit more confident. Okay? (That\u2019s all parts of mindset.)<\/p>\n WHAT IS YOUR GOAL FOR YOUR BROADCAST?<\/strong><\/p>\n Next \u2013 You want to think about, what is my goal for this broadcast? If I\u2019m going on here talking am I going to talk about what the dog ate last night? Nein.<\/p>\n You probably have this goal that you want to get traffic or you want to build your list or you want people to watch your video.<\/p>\n Or you just want to prove your thought leadership. Okay? Maybe you just want to go on there and riff about something that\u2019s going on in your industry. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n So when you have your goal in mind\u2026 You see this is why when you\u2019re saying \u201dHi\u201d to people when they\u2019re coming in and out, it\u2019s not going to throw you off your game. Because you remember \u201dthis is what my broadcast is about today.\u201d<\/p>\n No matter what before I get off here and I say \u201dBye\u201d to everybody I\u2019m going to reinforce the fact\u2026 and this is where your call to action comes in\u2026that \u201dHey sign up for my list\u201d or \u201dwatch that video.\u201d Okay?<\/p>\n MAKE A CHECKLIST FOR YOURSELF UNTIL YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH YOUR AGENDA<\/strong><\/p>\n So when you have that stuff. Maybe you want to make an outline for yourself. Or a checklist like I mentioned about the internet connection.<\/p>\n Maybe you want to have a checklist so by the third or the fourth or the twentieth time you do this you won\u2019t have to look at the checklist anymore. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n You won\u2019t even have to remember that my goal in this broadcast is to get people to read that new blog post I just issued. You won\u2019t even have to remember that.<\/p>\n Because this is what I mean when I say MINDSET. You won\u2019t be nervous you\u2019ll have your goals already laid out. You\u2019ll be able to communicate. You don\u2019t always have to go Live. \u00bfDerecha? But there is a thing about going Live that you also want to have that engagement from your people.<\/p>\n You want to be able to tell people ahead of time \u201dHey I\u2019m going Live Tuesday at six or whatever so that you know you\u2019ll already have at least a few people there.<\/p>\n All this helps you relax and keeps you focused on what your goal is.<\/p>\n The more you go Live you more you\u2019re going to say \u201dHey that particular broadcast I wasn\u2019t trying to get people to do anything I was just glad that they came and hung out with me.\u201d And that\u2019s going to be okay too.<\/p>\n So this is all like I said part of the mindset where you don\u2019t look at it and say \u201dOh I\u2019m going Live.\u201d\u2019You\u2019re looking at this as if to say \u201dOh this is just what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n JUST BREATHE<\/strong><\/p>\n This takes time guys. But I want you to know that this is how you start off. With your checklist. With having your notes in front of you and it\u2019s OKAY, JUST BREATHE.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Ileane you strike me as an extrovert.<\/p>\n I\u2019m just curious.<\/p>\n Do you know anybody personally that\u2019s an introvert that\u2019s tearing up Live video?<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: You know, most of them.<\/p>\n A lot of the folks that I follow will say that they are introverts.<\/p>\n In fact, I was just listening to an interview that Michael Stelzner\u2026 you know I\u2019m a big fan of podcasting and Michaels Stelzner\u2019s podcast is one that I highly recommend.<\/p>\n Right now he\u2019s doing a lot of interviews with the folks that were speakers at the conference. And so Alex Khan, (I met him for the first time) is someone that started on Periscope. But the point that I am listening to in the podcast. He was talking about how he was afraid to get on cam.<\/p>\n He had never done it and he\u2019s got over two hundred thousand followers on Periscope. In just the two years since Periscope came out.<\/p>\n He was shy and introverted and all of that. And he just saw it as a great way to connect with folks.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Alex Khan?<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Yeah. K \u00a0H \u00a0A N and \u00a0A \u00a0L E X.<\/p>\n And he is extremely tall and extremely handsome, ladies. (If there are ladies listening to this.)<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: I know there is. Gut.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: A very very nice gentleman.<\/p>\n But you know there has been a lot of folks that Michael\u2019s been interviewing and really all of the speakers that talks about Live video. I\u2019m probably one of the few that will say\u2026 Oh, and Brian Fanzo was another one who probably would say \u201dNo I was never introverted never really been shy.\u201d<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: So the majority you find actually are introverts?<\/p>\n That should give the introverts out there some hope.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Yes absolutely.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll give you another great example.<\/p>\n Amy Porterfield. My gosh, I\u2019ve been following her since way back when she only talked about Facebook.<\/p>\n Now she\u2019s not just talking about Facebook. Webinars is her big thing.<\/p>\n She hated video. She hated looking at herself on video. She hated being on video. I follow her podcast and it\u2019s been a journey like she has had to force herself to get on camera.<\/p>\n But now she\u2019s doing Live video all the time and she say\u2019s \u201dI still don\u2019t like it guys.\u201d But she does it because she knows it gets results.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Her audience appreciates that.<\/p>\n And likes her even more probably because she\u2019s so transparent with that.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Absolutely.<\/p>\n It\u2019s funny because our talk was at the same time because there were ten other sessions at the same time as mine. And my daughter, I mentioned my daughter earlier Nicole.<\/p>\n Nicole is a big fan of Amy and my daughter also has her own podcast. My daughter is a big fan of Amy so when she found out that Amy\u2019s session was at the same time as mine she looked at me and I said \u201ddon\u2019t even try it, sister.\u201d<\/p>\n And it\u2019s so funny because after my session was over, we were kind of like \u201dwe don\u2019t know where we\u2019re going now we don\u2019t know what\u2019s next.\u201d because mine was just done and it was so great. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n We were just walking down the halls of the convention center and bam! There was Amy Portefield taking pictures with folks that had just left her session and so we all got to stand together and take pictures. And that was so nice.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: That\u2019s cool!<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: It was really cool.<\/p>\n Because we literally did not know where we were going then.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t know we didn\u2019t look at the agenda past my session. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Correcto.<\/p>\n Ileane let\u2019s go onto the back grounds of your video.<\/p>\n I want to ask you when it comes to the setting or the stage so to speak.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Okay.<\/p>\n Mine I keep very simple.<\/p>\n You guys know I like to keep it real. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n I\u2019m in my living room so I\u2019m not trying to pretend that I\u2019m outside in front of a brick wall. Because I have a brick wall in my living room. Okay?<\/p>\n But I do see people do that. They have things set up like they\u2019re on set, a recording studio. About six months ago I jus got up and said \u201dmmm, I\u2019ve got some paint left over from the kitchen remodel.\u201d<\/p>\n So I just painted this wall white. I made sure I have good lighting. I actually have a window over to my left but a lot of the times when I\u2019m recording the sun\u2019s not out. I really have two lights on behind my computer so when I\u2019m at my desktop. And then I move them around when I mount my phone up on the tripod when I go live on Instagram or when I\u2019m doing it on my phone.<\/p>\n It\u2019s always important to have that lighting shining down on you.<\/p>\n Even when you\u2019re outside guys and there is something that\u2019s going on it\u2019s like \u201dI just want to be here.\u201d I\u2019m at this concert or \u00a0I\u2019m at this festival. Make sure that the sun or wherever the lighting is, is behind your phone. And facing on you. You don\u2019t want the light blaring into people\u2019s eyes who are watching your broadcast.<\/p>\n So those are a couple of things that you need to keep in mind. Of course, you don\u2019t want to have a cluttered background.<\/p>\n Then there are folks that put up that green screen. They put up the green screen and hide all their background or they put up some kind of drop cloth I should say because a green screen is usually used in a recorded video.<\/p>\n A lot of the times even though people have that green screen there even though they go Live\u00a0you see the green screen in the back. A lot of people use different colours. I\u2019ve seen people use a black drop if they know they have a messy background.<\/p>\n The point is to just cover up if you do have a messy background. Like I say just keep it real but at the same time, you don\u2019t want to go too real.<\/p>\n People are talking about 360 video. I\u2019m like \u201dnot me I don\u2019t want you seeing what\u2019s on the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: That means you\u2019ve got to clean the whole house.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Exactly.<\/p>\n So just keep that stuff in mind.<\/p>\n You want the focus to be on you. Even though it\u2019s a talking head video you know what I mean, you don\u2019t want people wondering \u201dwhat is that over there on her shelf is that a cat or\u2026?\u201d<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: I noticed some people like to have bookshelves behind them.<\/p>\n Or a wall with a bunch of pictures or even their logo or their awards and things.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Sue B Zimmerman she\u2019s really good for having and meeting folks and giving them those Hashtag plaques.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve met her too she\u2019s amazing.<\/p>\n And that\u2019s cool if you have a setup like that. My setup doesn\u2019t allow me enough room behind me. So I\u2019m not going to say \u201dOh man I can\u2019t do it because I can\u2019t put my bookshelf behind me.\u201dGuys stop whining and suck it up!<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Try your best.<\/p>\n Even if you don\u2019t have the drop cloth and you know it\u2019s messy.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t let that stop you. Get started because the longer you wait the faster everyone is moving past you. It\u2019s like we are early adopters as folks that are already doing it. But everybody has access to it now with Facebook Live. Everybody\u2019s going to be doing it this time next year.<\/p>\n Everybody\u2019s going to be doing it.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: What do you think about people doing it outside?<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Just be mindful.<\/p>\n You need to have the level ear mic like I mentioned.<\/p>\n But that\u2019s not good if you\u2019re going to have other people on cam with you because then you\u2019re going to need your ear buds. Okay?<\/p>\n So I have the older i5 the iPhone 6 the other iPhones 7 they\u2019re not good. I listened to a couple of podcasts of people and they were in their studios and it wasn\u2019t good. So those don\u2019t work.<\/p>\n You need to have the adapter or whatever somehow to plug-in you iPhone. Ear buds will work or if you have an Android phone those ear buds will work but if you can and if you\u2019re on-screen by yourself. the Lavalier mic.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s why guys. If you don\u2019t you just use your regular microphone on your phone it\u2019s going to pick up the wind. Or the people in the room. Let\u2019s say you\u2019re at a restaurant with all the clatter and chatter people are not going to hear you.<\/p>\n Audio is extremely important for your broadcast, it really is. So keep that in mind. Now let\u2019s just say you can\u2019t you\u2019ve just got to capture this moment. Then just keep it short. Keep it like five minutes like \u201dguys I\u2019ve just got to show you this, this is so amazing great fantastic.\u201d I don\u2019t know what\u2026something coming down the street and it\u2019s making a lot of noise but you\u2019ve just got to capture it.<\/p>\n Oh like with drones. There is drone footage. \u00bfDerecha? Yeah, there is going to be noise. Okay? And I know a lot of folks are using Live video with their drones. My friend Robert is doing it, he\u2019s got one of those Mavic Pros.<\/p>\n Keep those videos short.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Ileane are there any niches in particular that work well with Livestream?<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Actually I think most do.<\/p>\n Especially if it\u2019s a visual like food or fashion or art. (Like I mentioned earlier.)<\/p>\n Those things really lend themselves for Live video or something that may be scientific. But there are some that you may not want to experiment with Live video. Like regulated industries. Or you have to think of for example banking.<\/p>\n Or you have to think about a way around it.<\/p>\n You\u2019re not going to show behind the scenes. \u00bfDerecha? Because you can\u2019t do that. So you\u2019re going to have to be creative. It can be done. Find someone who is in your industry who is doing it and see what kind of creative things they are coming up with.<\/p>\n That\u2019s my recommendations there.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: That sounds good.<\/p>\n Before you go\u2026 I\u2019m glad you brought up the trolls because I want to ask you.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Every app that I know of has a block feature.<\/p>\n Youtube has it. Facebook has it. UND Twitter and I bet more people click on that block feature in Twitter than they do on the Go Live button.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve got, to be honest with you, I have never had to block someone on YouTube. I know YouTube has had a bad rap over the years about trolls. I have never had that problem.<\/p>\n I went onto Twitter yesterday like I said I was on there for seventeen minutes and I blocked ten people. There\u2019s always a block so make yourself familiar with where that block feature is. It\u2019s usually something that you have to swipe up or tap on that person who left that comment or whatever then you can block.<\/p>\n Or let\u2019s just say you\u2019re on Facebook and your ex-boyfriend or your ex-girlfriend\u00a0and you\u2019re like \u201dOh I want them blocked!\u201d Usually, you just tap on that person and it usually gives you that option there to block them.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: So you don\u2019t recommend acknowledging them.<\/p>\n Or getting in any discussion\u00a0normally?<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: You don\u2019t even have to tell your audience that, that person was there.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Correcto.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: Like when I was blocking folks on Twitter.<\/p>\n It\u2019s probably still on I didn\u2019t take it down so if you go to my Twitter you\u2019ll see it.<\/p>\n I didn\u2019t even tell people. After awhile I did because my friends were in there. I even said to my friend Tish and there was another guy there whom I had just met who was being very cordial and I said \u201dyou know what guys I\u2019m going over onto YouTube Live\u201d and that\u2019s exactly what I did.<\/p>\n My YouTube Live was amazing.<\/p>\n If you have a different experience on Twitter and Periscope, it\u2019s okay. I\u2019m not saying to folks don\u2019t use Twitter or don\u2019t use Periscope because I saw a lot of trolls. It could be just the time of day that I\u2019m going. I haven\u2019t spent a whole lot of time experimenting and trying to overcome that feature.<\/p>\n I just go where I really want to go which is YouTube and I don\u2019t mind doing Facebook like I said I know my groups are on Facebook. So of course, I\u2019m not seeing trolls because I know everyone in the groups.<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: S\u00ed.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: That\u2019s another safe place.<\/p>\n So guys if you want to start practicing.<\/p>\n After you start practising by yourself and get comfortable. Now the next thing you want to do is go into one of your groups. If you\u2019re not active on groups then find one.<\/p>\n Search for a group where maybe some of your friends are or ask your friends and then go into that group Live. Then you don\u2019t have to worry about especially if you\u2019re friends with the admin of the group you won\u2019t have to worry about trolls and all that kind of stuff.<\/p>\n When you\u2019re first going Live we don\u2019t want you to have this bad experience that makes you say \u201dNo I don\u2019t want to do that, I don\u2019t like it.\u201d We don\u2019t want that. \u00bfDerecha?<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: Correcto.<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: We want you to say \u201dOkay that wasn\u2019t so bad maybe I could do that again.\u201d<\/p>\n Matthew Loomis: That\u2019s the goal!<\/p>\n Ileane Smith: And you will.<\/p>\n You\u2019ll absolutely love it!<\/p>\n Guys, I encourage you, when you see the types of connections you can make.
