I konventionella moderna CMOS-sensorer \u00e4r fotodioder och pixeltransistorer placerade p\u00e5 samma substrat bredvid varandra.  Men ny teknik separerar fotodioder och pixeltransistorer i olika substratlager.  Detta g\u00f6r att m\u00e4ttnadssignalen kan ungef\u00e4r f\u00f6rdubblas j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med konventionella CMOS-sensorer.  Detta ger i sin tur ett ut\u00f6kat dynamiskt omf\u00e5ng.
